Agenda

Toronto ARM/KEIL User Group Meeting April 26, 2016

Are you an embedded engineer working with or considering working with ARM Cortex processors?

If so, don’t miss the unique opportunity to learn, network, and share at the Toronto ARM/KEIL user group meeting.

ARM FAE Ronan Synnott will be presenting “The Power of ARM DS-5 Debugging” complete with a live demonstration of an ARM DS-5 Linux aware (multi-core) debug on a Zynq device.

Embedded specialist and ARM trainer Shaun Purvis will be presenting “Maximizing Portability and Productivity with CMSIS Software Packs”. This will include a live demonstration using KEIL MDK and CMSIS to show users how they can quickly interact with hardware.

ARM/KEIL distributor Robert Campbell will also be providing an overview of new products and features of the ARM/KEIL development tools.

Location: JORAL Technologies, 2425 Matheson Blvd. E. (8th floor),  Mississauga, ON L4W 5K4

Date: April 26, 2016

Time: 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Event type: FREE

Topics will be discussed:

1. What’s New with KEIL and ARM Tools in 2016

There have been a number of changes with ARM/KEIL Development tools in 2016. This presentation will give the user group an update of the new products and features of the ARM/KEIL development tools.

Speaker: Robert Campbell

Robert is the owner and operator of JORAL Technologies. JORAL Technologies has been an ARM/KEIL Distributor for 10 years and offers a wide range of embedded products which include design tools, safety critical tools, production tools, and embedded hardware products.

2. The Power of ARM DS-5 Debugging

With DS-5, ARM provides a complete software development environment for all ARM-based devices, including the latest CPUs, in single-core, multi-core, and heterogeneous configurations. In addition to bare-metal, Linux and RTOS aware debug is also supported.

This presentation will highlight support for all these technologies, and include a demonstration of the same, using Xilinx Zynq-7000 as an example of a multi-core (Cortex-A9) system, and NXP i.MX7 as an example of a heterogeneous (Cortex-A7 and Cortex-M4) system.

Live demonstrations will be shown on the following platforms:

Bare-metal, multi-core example on Zynq

Linux aware (multi-core) debug on Zynq

RTOS aware debug on iMX7 (Cortex-M4)

Linux aware debug on iMX7 (Cortex-A7)

Speaker: Ronan Synnott

Ronan is a Select FAE at ARM and has ~18 years’ experience dealing with all aspects of software development on ARM platforms.

3. Maximizing Portability and Productivity with CMSIS Software Packs

ARM works closely with silicon vendors and middleware providers to continually improve and expand their Cortex Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (CMSIS). This standard allows end users to write applications that are both highly portable and make the most of existing code in an efficient and flexible manner. This session will summarize what CMSIS is, where it is, and who supports it. Additionally, the KEIL MDK tool will be used to demonstrate how CMISIS can be seamlessly integrated into embedded projects to quickly access peripherals and I/O devices.

A live demonstration will be shown on an STM32 F7 discovery board.

Speaker: Shaun Purvis

Shaun is the embedded specialist at Hardent, a design house for hardware and embedded software, and regularly trains engineers about ARM and Xilinx technologies.
